October is here, can you believe it? Seems we blinked and the year is nearly over! We are seeing traditional birthstones making a welcome comeback over the last year and the birthstones for October are two of my all time favourites.
Opal is the traditional birthstone for October and it doesn't get any more Australian than this intriguing stone. We have some beautiful specimens available including solid white opals and boulder opals in a variety of styles. Opals by their very nature appeal to our lust for all things unique. Each stone presents differently, flashing beautiful blues, reds and greens. Their lively sparkle and fire draws us in and captivates us. The above picture is of the opal mines in the South Australian town of Coober Pedy.
Over the years the Tourmaline has become an alternative birthstone for October. This is a stone that captured my heart many years ago when I laid eyes on the most perfect pink and green watermelon tourmaline. Sadly, my first tourmaline love was made into a pendant and sold to a very lucky client but my obsession for this stone in it's myriad of colours has continued. Pink, green, blue, black, brown, yellow, watermelon bi-colour, the options are endless. We have a few striking tourmalines available in the gallery already set into some amazing jewellery as well as a selection of loose stones carefully selected from my private collection currently on display.
Here are just a few of the opal & tourmaline pieces that are currently available and exhibiting at the gallery:
